How do you determine what type of conditioning treatment your natural hair needs? Do you judge by how your hair looks or feels, or do you seek the advice of a professional hair stylist? If youre looking for a quick and easy way to determine what type of deep conditioning treatment you hair needs, try giving your hair an elasticity and porosity test.
What is elasticity and porosity? Elasticity, is the hair's ability to stretch and return to its normal state without breaking. Porosity is the hair's ability to absorb moisture. Elasticity determines the strength of the hair's side bonds that hold the fibers in place. Porosity directly identifies the condition of the cuticle layer of the hair ().
A simple elasticity and porosity test can be done at home to determine if your hair needs protein, moisture, or both. To complete this task, all you need is a glass of water, and a strand of your own hair. Take the hair strand and drop it into the glass of water, if the hair strand floats, thats an indication of the cuticle being sealed. If the hair strand drops to the bottom of the glass, the hair is porous and lacking moisture.
Take the same strand of hair out of the water, hold it at each end, and stretch the strand to see how far it can stretch without breaking. If the hair bounces back without breaking, the elasticity is normal. If the hair strand breaks, or stretches out without returning to its normal state, the hair strand is weak and in need of protein.
Another way to determine porosity is to take a dry hair strand, and run your fingers down the strand. If the hair strand is smooth from root to end, the cuticle is sealed. If the hair strand feels rough that means the hair is porous.
It only takes a few minutes to conduct these two tests, to determine what type of deep conditioning treatment your hair needs. Your natural hair needs a balance of moisture and protein to grow in healthy and prevent breakage. 編みこみ 髪
